The area of Haiku is still in pineapple production. We are surrounded by ripening pineapple fields, paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) ranches, and even an exotic bird sanctuary. Yet it's just a short stroll to the plantation town of Haiku with many eateries, a world famous dance studio, grocery store, post office and several small local establishments all housed within the walls of the old pineapple cannery. A small plantation town, with friendly local people for a real Hawaiian atmosphere.
Several world famous beaches are within a 5 minute drive, with "Jaws" famous for its large winter waves, "Ho'okipa" infamous worldwide for surfing and windsurfing, and "Tavares" or "Baldwin Beach" providing swimming, body boarding, snorkeling & safe baby beach : the north side of the island is the place for locals and visitors alike.
Rainforests and waterfalls with swimming holes begin a short 15 minute drive from our location, as we are just a short distance from the main Hana Highway.

Kahului and Airport: A brief 15 - 20 minutes close to the airport for late night or early morning flights. We welcome our late arrivals with turn down service and an aloha smile. For our early flight departures, a hot cup of Maui coffee or upcountry herbal tea begins your morning.
Hana:Just off the Hana Hwy many of our guests stay at Haiku Plantation Inn for the convenience of our location and shorter access to begin the famous Hana Highway.
South shore: Kihei and Wailea are a lovely 25 minute drive, off peak traffic, traveling through plantation townes, and one of the only working sugar mills left in Hawaii. It is a drive through history. With sunny beaches and grand resorts, Kihei and the south shore are a great way to spend the day. Remember, it is best to go in the morning's, the south is windy by noon most days.
West side: Lovely Lahaina and famous Kaanapali Beach awaits as you travel through pineapple and sugar cane fields and over the Pali with its magnificent view vista. Take a snorkel and fins and a cooler with beverages, Lahaina translates as unbearable heat. Lots to see in this old whaling village, so take your time and explore.

Upon leaving the airport:
Follow the signs and head north on highway 36 (known locally as the Hana Highway) towards the towns of Paia and Hana. There is a Kmart on that corner where you will turn left just a couple blocks outside the airport.
Continue driving east on the Hwy 36 through Paia, past Mama's Fish House Restaurant, and on past Ho'okipa Beach.
The hwy will drop down into "Maliko Gulch" and come up and around a bend. Soon you will see mile marker "11" on the right, and the green roadsign which says "Haiku and Makawao". Turn right at this exit ( there is a designated right hand turn lane, and at night a street light) onto Haiku Rd. Follow up the hill and past the big white fenced Baldwin plantation and your left. You will bend sharply to the left and then shortly reach a fork in the road with a red yield sign facing you. Just follow the road to the right around the corner and our driveway is immediately on your left. You will see the sign out front as you make that bend.

Volunteering On Vacation -- Hawaii's Newest Travel Trend How You Can Get Involved
For 100 years, the remains of a once thriving Native Hawaiian village in Honokowai Valley lay dormant. Today, dedicated volunteers are restoring it. Wear closed-toe shoes, long sleeved shirts and pants and bring sunscreen, water and lunch. Most of the work involves weeding, planting, clearing stream beds and chipping wood.
